For IT contractors

Bookkeeping for IT contractors

You set up a company to take on a contract. Now there's a company to run as well: BAS, payroll, super and a set of books. We look after that side, so your company stays in order while you focus on the work.

Your company, kept in order

Matched

Agency payment received

Recorded against the right invoice or RCTI

Lodged

Quarterly BAS

GST and PAYG prepared, approved by you, lodged

Payday Super

Director pay run

Reported via STP, super paid on payday

This quarter

Set-aside guide

What's due for GST and PAYG each quarter

What usually goes wrong

The company admin tends to slide in the same ways

Money gets mixed

Company money is used for personal things, or the reverse. It's easy to do and messy to untangle later.

The quarterly BAS sneaks up

GST on your agency invoices needs to be set aside, and it's easy to spend it by mistake.

Paying yourself isn't simple

As a director, your salary goes through payroll and Single Touch Payroll. Super now has to be paid every payday, not quarterly.

Agency paperwork doesn't match

Timesheets, invoices and agency-issued tax invoices (RCTIs) all need to line up with what lands in the bank.

Tax time is a surprise

When books aren't current, your accountant starts from scratch and the bill goes up.

Most contractors we meet are good at their jobs and short on time.

That's not a problem. It's what we're here for.

What we look after

Everything your company needs between tax returns

Record every agency payment against the right invoice or RCTI

Keep company and personal spending clearly separated, and flag anything that looks off

Prepare and lodge your quarterly BAS, including GST and PAYG

Run your director pay through payroll and report it through Single Touch Payroll

Pay your super each payday under the Payday Super rules

Track your business costs: equipment, software, insurance, training and memberships

Show you each quarter what's due for GST and PAYG, so you can set it aside

Hand clean books to your accountant at year end

Common questions

What contractors usually ask us

I'm between contracts. Do I still need a bookkeeper?

Your company still has obligations when you're not billing. We can drop you to a lighter package until your next contract starts.

I've just set up my company. Can you help from day one?

Yes. Starting with clean books is much easier than fixing them later. We'll set up Xero, your bank feeds and payroll for you.

My agency sends me RCTIs. Do I still invoice them?

Usually not, but it depends on your agreement with the agency. We'll check your setup and make sure the GST is counted once, not twice.

Do you do my tax return?

No. We handle the bookkeeping, BAS and payroll. Your accountant does your company and personal tax returns. If you need one, we can introduce you.
